Are You Investing In Yourself?

Posted on Updated on

It’s tax refund season! You know what that means, the government took your money that you earned for a whole year, and now has decided to let you have it back, interest free! Wow they really are looking out for us aren’t they… Not really.

YES IT IS A REFUND

Everyone gets so excited every year to get THEIR money back, it blows my mind when people come up to me asking how much I got back. Then we compare amounts, and when they find out that most of the time I had to pay the government money they look at me like I’ve made a horrible mistake. But let’s think about this, I changed my withholdings to keep the maximum amounts. That means that I can put what I would have had taken out in taxes into a fund of some kind, then when it comes time to pay uncle sam the NECESSARY AMOUNT (no more no less!), I take it out of the fund and use the interest gained as a cushion to be compounded every year. So in the end this person fought tooth and nail to get whatever money they could back, looking in every loophole and tax bracket they could. While I literally made money on the money every year, and never had to worry about paying too much. Sounds like a win to me…

WHAT TO DO WITH THE REFUND?

Well  you can go out and get that new tv you’ve been wanting, that new gaming system or a down payment on a car you can barely afford. But what do all of these things have in common, they’re liabilities! A liability is something that you spend money on, then you spend money on and keep spending money on it, the liability never yields anything of value to you! Instead how about you take time on the internet to invest in something that will actually help, go to a seminar on how to start a business online, look into real-estate. I wouldn’t recommend buying stocks though, I did that one year and it was a lesson well learned, it takes much more thought and consideration than buying something that will give you knowledge or income.

START A NEW HABBIT

Look at things you buy from now on as an asset (money maker) or a liability (money taker). Learning and applying these two words will yield incredible returns in most areas of your life! And the sooner you can fix your taxes to change the withholdings to keep the money that’s YOURS, the better. Just go to your HR person and ask to have your withholdings done so that you keep the maximum, this is easiest if you’re on a salary because you can look at your taxes from last year and just invest that amount monthly. Then just sit back and enjoy the interest earned and knowledge applied ūüôā

Have a great day!

When paleo prep fails

Posted on Updated on

so I just got back from a weekend trip to S. Texas to see family, and only had a post workout meal prepped for the week (still questionable if it was past experation, but I’m still alive so we’ll see).

SO WHAT DO I DO WHEN I DONT HAVE FOOD PREPPED?

Target! For what I would have paid for a similar meal at a food chain or restaurant, I got twice the quality and quantity. Broccoli and cauliflower, tuna and black beans with the splurge drink (but no added sugar or flavors so it’s all good), for $8!

WHY THE BEANS??

Some keyboard warriors might be planning a protest as you read this, saying that “legumes aren’t paleo!”. To this I say, easy brave heart, and keep in mind I train twice per day 3 days per week. So if I don’t have a high calorie legume in there somewhere I have the social appeal of a starving crocodile.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

I’M BACK! (Paleo Meal Prep intro)

IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE BAAAAACK!!

So it’s been a while huh, I had to take a little personal time to do a little “soul searching” to find out what I want for my families future as well as my own. (job wise, hobbies and DUN DUN DUNNNN….kids)

We don’t have kids yet!

Thankfully that much is true, not that I don’t want kids at all, but I’m only 25 so I want to grind as hard as I can now without taking time from family to build a life that supports my family with time and money. So that is what’s been going on with me!

What do we do now?

Well I’m eager and excited to hit some new goals that I have set for myself and providing the best quality content that I can! One thing that I have been working on recently I have picked up the habit of cooking! My dad has always been an amazing cook, and until recently I thought that the gene might have skipped a generation. UNTIL I merged my love of fitness and cooking to begin the new family tradition of…

PALEO MEAL PREP

I’m not sure if there are that many athletes that read these posts, but if you are, then you know the struggle with balancing healthy eating with fitness and life. It seems like the world wakes up before us 10 minutes earlier every day to find new ways to get us off track when it comes to a healthy athletic diet! Also when we go out with friends it’s not always the most convenient (or cheapest) option to keep on the paleo train.

MEAL PREP SAVES ME DAILY

Just having the right options pre prepared in the house limits the “slip ups” to virtually NONE! Any other time I was home and knew I needed something to fuel me for a few more hours till the next meal, I would see cookies and cake and justify the “benefits” of the fast acting glycimic index of that “food”. Needless to say it never worked out in my favor long term… BUT having the right options through the meal prep is an insane blessing!

SO HERE’S TO THE FUTURE

I’ll be talking more about food along with the success and uplifting material I have before, but I wanted to share this with you all in case there are some people out there who know this struggle as well!

Do the thing, and you shall have the power

There was never a more impacting¬†quote on my life than this one by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I’m sure you are nothing like me, and find yourself thinking “once I have or do _____ I’ll be able to get started.”

Waiting to act is simply another form of death

The truth is that we will never be fully prepared to do anything in our lives. Whether it’s myself sitting here in Shreveport waiting for all the lights from here to Dallas to turn green to make a trip, or someone waiting to get married until they have “a sufficient income.” It’s not the recourses that give us the power, but it’s our resourcefulness to make things happen in the face of opposition that makes us great.

I waited for the stars to align once

I had just graduated college with a degree in Graphic Design (which I will be putting to use on the headings of these blogs), and I had been dating my wife to be for about 4 years. And to preface this I’ll say that the longest relationship I had before this was about 6 months, so I knew I had a keeper ;). And upon graduating I quickly found a job making significantly more than I had at my previous occupation. So in keeping with the obsolete habit of waiting to act until I have the recourses, I asked her to marry me now that we had “a sufficient income.” But what really changed? She was the same person and so was I before we made the decision to wed, and if money only corrupts why would I wait until we had more of it? Well because I was young and foolish and willing to tempt God’s sense of humor, that’s why.

Then the stars crashed

I had been at this job for about 2 months when the manager came up to me and said “we love having you and you’re doing a great job, but we don’t have the recourses to keep you on, so we have to let you go.” So just like that the “sufficient income” was gone, and with it about two thirds of my morale and faith in the American Dream. Yet somehow even making a lot less somewhere else (basically what I was making before I graduated), we got married and have thrived two years on that income (plus about $3 raises).

All of this to say is that

We had the power to make it all along, but chose not to realize it and wait for someone to “give”(and then take) the “power” to us. You may be in a different situation in life, but I can almost garauntee you that you have the power within you to make the decisions and sacrifices to get the ball rolling. Whether it be a business venture (and you need at least a few in your life to be worth your salt at all), family, relationships, mission trips or any of the hosts of other things you could be facing, you have the power now to do it. You are the same person now as you will be when you finally get XYZ so why not just do it now, get a few bumps and bruises to learn what not to do next time, and get after this thing??

WHAT’S LIFE WITHOUT ADVENTURE?

WHO IS CORY HINTON

Posted on Updated on

BACKSTORY

My name is Cory Hinton, I was born in LA. and transplanted to TX around 2 years old. I came from VERY humble beginnings and had the benefit of struggling through the first part of my life. I grew up in a single parent house, my mom raised me as best she could in the situation we were in. Even through all of the struggles we faced we always had each other, and I have her to thank for the ever positive outlook on life.

The biggest influences in my life came from family, mostly my aunt Beth and her husband Pete, even before I was born they took an active role in my life. The vision that I have for my life largely came from seeing the lifestyle Beth and Pete were able to afford to give to others through financial means and relationships.

It wasn’t just the money, but what the money was able to do for others.

And this planted the seed of desire for success in my mind. I knew from that time that I wanted to be successful and have wealth, again not for the fact that I would have a bunch of little pieces of paper to keep up with, but what I would be able to contribute to others with that money. So I followed the advice of seemingly important people to gain this success. I “went to school, got “good” grades, went to college and embarked on finding the “good job.”¬†Soon I found that “good job” and was there for a whole 2 months before they decided that it “wasn’t profitable¬†for them to keep me”, and I was gone and now my fiance along with me.

It was at that point all the wisdom that my uncle Pete had shared about business and working for yourself came rushing back. I was found by Primerica Financial Services (some may know of it), and I knew that this was different and not one of those “things” that sell pills, potions and lotions. Not only have I been given a drastic business education from the company, monetary compensation and above all else the personal growth to

BECOME the person WORTHY of a 6 figure income.

But we can discuss all of this later….

MY VISION FOR THIS BLOG

I desire to grow personally through this blog and to inspire growth of those who read it. I will give my best to the content of what is on here, and will be open to those willing to help. Being a young man in life and involved in the financial, spiritual and now married life world I can see that we all need something to keep a positive outlook in a dark time. I am willing to be the light and share the light with as many as will follow. I will be talking about business, personal finance, religion, marriage, fitness and whatever else seems important at the time.

It’s going to be an adventure.

WHY SHOULD YOU LISTEN TO ME?

Well you shouldn’t that’s for sure, I am not smarter than anyone else and I know that for a fact. I’m glad you have your own opinion, and I don’t want to create more “me” but I want to inspire¬†more educated positive people. I am willing to make mistakes, learn from them and hear from others how to avoid them and keep moving forward. I’m young in life but I know where I am going and where I will lead my family, I ask that you would not look at me as the person with all the answers, but the person who simply asks the questions.

DON’T BELIEVE ANYTHING I SAY BUT FIND OUT THE ANSWER FOR YOURSELF
